UMI's FAI Family Law Study Program Strengthens International Networks through International Conferences and PDHKI–APHKI National Conferences

Makassar— The Family Law Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Indonesian Muslim University (FAI UMI) has once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening academic quality, institutional governance, and international collaboration networks by actively participating in The 6th International Conference on Islamic Family Law (ICOIFL), The 2nd International Conference on Law and Contemporary Islamic Law (ICOCIL), as well as the 8th National Working Conference (Muskernas) of the Association of Islamic Family Law Lecturers (PDHKI) and the 7th National Working Conference (Muskernas) of the Association. Islamic Family Law Study Program (APHKI).
The series of activities with the theme "Ecotheology and Islamic Family Law Transformation" was held at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, UIN Alauddin Makassar for three days, 22-24 July 2026, and was attended by academics, researchers and managers of the Islamic Family Law Study Program from various universities in Indonesia and abroad.
The FAI UMI Family Law Study Delegation was led by Dr. H. M. Akil, M.H., as Head of the Study Program, accompanied by Dr. Ardi, S.H.I., M.H., as Secretary of the Study Program, and Zulkifli Wahab, S.Ag., M.H., as lecturer at the FAI UMI Family Law Study Program. The presence of this delegation is part of FAI UMI's ongoing efforts to expand strategic partnerships, increase the academic capacity of lecturers, and strengthen the institution's position in the Islamic family law higher education network.
Muskernas Discusses Organizational Strengthening and Scientific Development The first day's agenda, Wednesday (22/7), began with the opening of the PDHKI and APHKI National Muskernas which featured remarks from the General Chair of PDHKI Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ilyya Muhsin, S.H.I., M.Si., C.M., Chair of APHKI Dr. Hj. Erik Sabti Rahmawati, M.A., M.Ag., and Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, UIN Alauddin Makassar, Prof. Dr. H. Abd. Rauf Muhammad Amin, Lc., M.A.
The Muskernas session then discussed the organization's various strategic agendas, starting from strengthening association governance, improving the quality of the Islamic Family Law Study Program, to developing collaborative research and scientific publications oriented towards international standards.
Bring in International Experts and Strengthen Global Collaboration Entering the second day, Thursday (23/7), the activities continued with the PDHKI–APHKI International Seminar which was opened by the Chancellor of UIN Alauddin Makassar, Prof. H. Hamdan Juhannis, M.A., Ph.D. The seminar became a space for academic discussion regarding the transformation of Islamic family law in responding to social, environmental and global development challenges.
The international conference presented a number of world-leading experts, including Prof. Dr. Jasser Auda (Malaysia), Prof. Madya Dr. Ibnor Azli Ibrahim (Brunei Darussalam), and Professor Dato' Dr. Nik Salida Suhaila Nik Saleh (Malaysia), as well as national academics from various universities. The various perspectives presented enrich the discourse regarding family law reform in Islam through a multidisciplinary and ecotheological approach.
FAI UMI Family Law Study Program Signs Strategic MoU One of the important agendas for this activity was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PDHKI and APHKI with various universities and strategic partners, including the FAI UMI Family Law Study Program and Al-Tafaqquh Journal: Journal of Islamic Law.
This collaboration includes strengthening the fields of education, research, community service, scientific publications, academic exchanges, as well as developing national and international networks. For the FAI UMI Family Law Study Program, this agreement is a strategic step to expand research collaboration while improving the quality of reputable scientific publications.
Strengthen Academic Reputation and Scientific Publications Apart from participating in international scientific forums, the FAI UMI delegation also took advantage of this opportunity to build networks with various higher education institutions and scientific journal managers. The signing of the collaboration between Al-Tafaqquh Journal: Journal of Islamic Law and PDHKI and APHKI is expected to expand editorial collaboration, improve publication quality, and strengthen the journal's reputation at national and international levels.
Head of the FAI UMI Family Law Study Program, Dr. H. M. Akil, M.H., emphasized that active participation in international scientific forums is part of the institutional development strategy towards a superior and globally competitive Study Program.
"The participation of the FAI UMI Family Law Study Program in international conferences and the PDHKI–APHKI National Conference is a form of our commitment to continue to improve academic quality, expand collaboration networks, and strengthen contributions in the development of Islamic family law. The collaboration that exists will open up more opportunities for research collaboration, scientific publications, and development of academic resources at the national and international levels," said Dr. Akil.
In line with that, Secretary of the FAI UMI Family Law Study Program, Dr. Ardi, S.H.I., M.H., added that collaboration across universities and professional organizations is an important foundation in facing the dynamic development of Islamic family law in the global era.
Through participation in this international forum, the FAI UMI Family Law Study Program has further strengthened its position as an institution that actively builds academic collaboration, develops interdisciplinary research, and produces quality scientific publications that make a real contribution to the development of Islamic family law at the national and global level.
